Provide individualized intensive early intervention behavior therapy services directly and independently to children with autism in their home, school and community environments. Assist Senior Behavior Therapists as requested in conducting assessment and training of staff, parents, and community members utilizing methods that have been demonstrated through Applied Behavior Analysis to be effective in developing typical home and community language, social, and self-control skills. Provide services that place the highest priority on an ethical regard for the best interests of the children served.

Qualifications:

  • A BA or BS degree is required.
  • Lovaas Institute Midwest Behavior Therapist Trainees who have a minimum of 1 month or 30 hours and a maximum of 6 months or 180 hours of training under continuous supervision from a Senior Behavior Therapist and Behavior Therapist, meet the minimum number of competencies from the Behavior Therapist Competency Based Checklist, have received a positive evaluation by the parents, and have complied with the Lovaas Institute Midwest Professional Standards for Practice will qualify for the position of Behavior Therapist Associate.
  • Applicants from another early intervention site which uses an equivalent therapeutic model (as deemed by Lovaas Institute Midwest), who have a minimum of 3 months or 90 hours of training under continuous supervision from a Senior Behavior Therapist and Behavior Therapist will be asked to provide supporting documentation as outlined in the application packet and will qualify for the position of Behavior Therapist Associate if they meet the minimum number of competencies from the Behavior Therapist Competency Based Checklist within one month of employment.
  • Employees must be able and willing to work well with a team and consistently comply with all supervisory direction.
  • Employees must be interested in working with children who have severely challenging behaviors and developmental disabilities. The employees must possess the interpersonal skills to be playful, enthusiastic and bring a high level of energy into the family situation. They must also be assertive while demonstrating behavior therapy in an isolated home environment.
  • Employees must have the ability to read written treatment directions, collect numeric data and summarize the results by computing and graphing. In addition, strong writing skills to document treatment sessions is required.
  • Employees must be able to drive, possess a valid driver’s license, and have use of an automobile to travel to and from children’s homes, occasional transportation of the child if necessary, and to the office for additional training sessions and meetings.
  • Employees must have proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Required Training:

  • The Behavior Therapist Associate must continue to meet the minimum competencies listed on the Behavior Therapist Competency Based Checklist and Case Management Competency Based Checklist under the supervision of the Senior Behavior Therapist, meet all Lovaas Institute Midwest Professional Standards for Practice, maintain favorable parent evaluations and performance appraisal scores, and pass tests on programming issues and Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • The Behavior Therapist Associate will regularly attend and participate in weekly clinical reviews and overlap sessions for ongoing training and supervision.
